Course Description

The course focuses on the use of concepts and methods in humanities research, with particular emphasis on research in theatre and the performing arts. Through the teaching of the course, students will be able to apply the research methods and tools used in theatre studies, as they will participate in a simulation group conducting Audience Research. In addition, they will have the opportunity to become familiar with the process of writing an academic theatre studies paper. A case study will be presented focusing on a theatre research institution: the Research Centre for the Study and Documentation of Greek Theatre-Theatre Museum (1975-2012).

After the successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • define the concept of theatre research;
  • recognize the methodological framework of theatre studies research;
  • understand the significance of methodological tools in theatre research;
  • design and produce academic research texts according to scholarly requirements (assignments, BA theses, MA theses, research papers, etc.), using the methodological tools presented in Theatre Research Methodology I and II;
  • combine research methods in a reasoned and appropriate manner across diverse research contexts;
  • formulate research questions, evaluate them, and revise them through the adjustment of data and parameters;
  • assess individual stages of the research process and effectively utilize research findings.
